Overview
Chorea, also known as Huntington’s disease (HD), is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder characterized by involuntary movements, cognitive decline, and psychiatric symptoms. It is caused by a genetic mutation leading to the degeneration of nerve cells in the brain. Chorea, the hallmark symptom, involves jerky, uncontrollable movements that worsen over time, affecting coordination and balance. HD typically manifests in mid-adulthood, though onset can occur at any age. As the disease progresses, individuals with HD experience a decline in motor skills, leading to difficulties in speaking, swallowing, and walking. Cognitive functions, including memory and reasoning, deteriorate, often accompanied by mood swings, depression, and anxiety. HD profoundly impacts both the affected individuals and their families, posing immense emotional and caregiving challenges.

Tarentula is best suited for chorea where all the limbs are affected with involuntary movements. This can be attended with intense hyperaesthesia (increased sensitivity of skin). Constant movements of the arm, tossing of the arms from side to side, constant motion of hands that leads to difficulty in doing anything with the hand are some accompanying symptoms. Involuntary movements of the leg and feet are prominent, leading to an inability to walk. Difficulty in speech, heaviness of the tongue with involuntary movements, and choreic movements of the head are also present.
